“JUST START” ISN’T AS
EASY AS IT SOUNDS!
If you want to lose weight, then you need to eat healthily and move a lot to produce a negative calorie deficit. So far, so good – sounds simple enough. However, understanding the theory doesn’t always mean that we meet our goals; often, we fail to implement what we’ve learned. At the end of the day, “just start” is easier said than done.
If you haven’t been eating healthily or moving much before deciding on your goal, this will be twice as hard for you. You will need to break old habits, overcome your inner demons and establish new routines, far more so than others will. Just remember, your goal is the reason that you started it all.
WHY YOU NEED TO HAVE A
BURNING PASSION FOR YOUR GOAL
You can only get passionate about your goal if you understand the “why” behind it. Finding your why forms the emotional foundation for your goal and the motor that will drive you to reach it each day!
Let’s take losing weight as an example. Do you want to lose weight to feel better in yourself or do you want to lose weight because people tell you, either directly or indirectly, that you have to?
This question is an important one; only intrinsic motivation that comes from within will enable you to achieve your goal in the long-term. You can only reach your goal if you’re 100% behind it! Once you know that you’re doing it for yourself, you’ll leap out of bed at 6 a.m. for training, full of enthusiasm. Another motivating factor: use your inner eye to keep visualising your goal. Imagine what it will be like to feel great in your body.
SET ACHIEVABLE GOALS
When we ask about goals, we often hear “I want to lose weight” or “I want to get fitter”. The issue with these responses is this: How do you know that you’ve achieved your goal?
Therefore, it is vital to set specific and, above all, realistic goals. Ask yourself: WHAT do I want to achieve, HOW MUCH do I want to achieve and by WHEN? Let’s stick with our example of losing weight: a specific goal could be “I want to lose 7 lbs in 6 months”.
Break your goal down into sub-goals so that you can check that you’re on track along your way. Set your personal goal now to become a whole new you!
